Quirky, insightful and funny with a darkness at the core. Another distinctive Asquith gem The Times Pure gold - soap scriptwriters would chew their arms off to recreate it Daily Mirror Don't know were you got your so-called Clowns from. They were not what I would call a clown, let alone childrens entertainers, Why not talk to CLOWNS INTERNATIONAL, They will show you the real Clowns, Real Clowns don't use lipstick as make-up for one thing, and we don't swear, smoke or drink in front of the public. Chuckles the Clown An amazing film mainly because it showed a deep and disturbing understanding of the British male psyche. Marc Kushin Outstandingly good. I loved the streak of anarchy and self-aware crack-pottedness that all the characters seemed to have. Moving and joyful, light and dark, affectionate and revealing. Also quite beautifully edited. Oliver Morse, Windfall Films That considerable rarity: a documentary that is both richly revealing and imbued with an unusual degree of sympathy The Daily Telegraph An extraordinary piece of work - moving, funny, sad, perceptive, sensitive, incredibly original, beautifully paced and completely absorbing. Thank you. Kenneth Band Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Have usually forgone TV for the Xbox, but I fell into Clowns very quickly and enjoyed it immensely. Will Aspinall Best doc Ive seen in ages. It was incredibly moving, poignant, and hilariously funny. Tim Wardle, Century Films A fantastic film about a really weird and wonderful world. Al Morrow, IWC Awesome! Simultaneous comedy and tragedy in baggy trousers and raggedy hat! Meanwhile on Channel 4 Rageh Omar was asking people what their WORST fear was about immigration was...before the documentary about the man who had to carry his own face tumours. Hail Dandy! Toby Amies, presenter Rough Guide What a bloody fantastic film! It was fast-moving and cheerful, the quick cuts back and forth between the clowns really kept you on the edge of your seat as the men's shared stories emerged, and the carefully cut soundtrack really added to the pace and poignancy. Its unusual to see contributors able to be so open and comfortable with a filmmaker, and best of all, one clown's realisation of the loss of his mother wasn't just exploited as a 'TV tears' moment as often it can be (even against the better judgement of the filmmaker!), but his mother and her memory were genuinely honoured. Beautiful, and a fine commission/acquisition from BBC2. More from Dandy please! Lyndsey Dryden, Current TV Not a true reflection of the art of clowning which I have enjoyed since 1968. Salvo the Clown So refreshing to see someone who actually spends time and gets close to contributors rather than flying in and out of their lives in a week. Wicked debut for Dandy. Barney Lankester It was excellent very bitter sweet but the development of the characters stories was enthralling. I loved it. Louise Pepe How very sad. What a complete misrepresentation of Clowns and childrens entertainers. Daisy should be ashamed of herself, this portrays such a slanderous view on Clowns and the childrens entertainments industry. Tommy Tickle is one of the most unprofessional entertainers I think I have seen. Stu the Clown
